CARADT & CoE VV awarded SIA/FCP grant

Great news! CARADT researcher Rikst Westra’s project “Cultural participation, Co-creation and reintegration” is the recipient of the prestigious SIA/FCP grant “Co-creatie en cultuurbeoefening.arrow” For the next two years, Rikst is going to research how forms of cultural participation can help (former) inmates build a life beyond prison. Central to the project is a co-creative writing group in which participants, alongside established writers, write and recite stories and poetry together. The research explores how creative processes contribute to finding one’s own voice, boosting self-confidence and building a meaningful life. Reintegration is approached as a cultural and social issue, in which social cohesion and human dignity are central.

This research will be a collaboration between CARADT’s Cultural & Creative Industries research group(CCI) and the Transmural Restorative Practices (THW) within the Centre of Expertise Safety & Resilience. We are delighted about this opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration! We hope that the confluence of design-based research with restorative approacheswill lead to new insights into complex social issues.

The consortium also includes the practice partners Stichting Blocknotes, Penitentiary Dordrecht (PI) and Exodus Nederland. Together, they ensure a strong link between research and practice.

CARADT is proud to have been awarded this grant and looks forward to the research and the intensive collaboration with all partners involved.

Research Group: Cultural and Creative Industries

The research group Cultural and Creative Industries investigates the role of artists and designers as creative innovators and drivers of social and economic change. Affiliated researchers analyse the cultural and creative industries from a critical point of view and examine the conditions under which timely forms of aesthetic expression and social connectedness can actually take place within the precarious reality of this field. What economic models are required by artists and designers to create a meaningful practice within the aesthetic, social, and economic intentions of the cultural and creative industries? What skills sets are required for those artists and designers who don’t just want to follow movements, but actually shape novel social and economic models of the future?
