JJR-Volume8 Growing Jewellery Goldsmithing with Mycelium

In Growing Jewellery, Simone van den Broek documents a practice-based exploration of working with mycelium within the field of jewellery design. The paper presents a visual reflection on material processes, design experiments, and conceptual approaches, developed as part of the Living Gold research projectarrow at CARADT.

The work investigates the potential of living materials in relation to jewellery, examining how fungi-based forms and goldsmithing techniques may intersect. The publication brings together visual documentation and design-based inquiry, reflecting an interest in material transformation, sustainability, and new approaches to craft.

Journal of Jewellery Research is a peer-reviewed publication that aims to explore jewellery from a range of disciplinary perspectives. Volume 8 was first published in July 2025.

Research Group: Situated Art, Design and Technology

Living in cities developed around data and acting within the inscrutable structure of our techno-society demands art and design that can help understand how we relate to these rapidly changing surroundings and to reflect on that relationship. The research group Situated Art, Design and Technology responds to this exigency by fostering a situated turn in art and design through a diverse portfolio of interdisciplinary research projects in partnership with academic and cultural partners, as well as with government and industry.
