Open Call: Art Projects on Grief, Loss and Death

Are you a student or alumnus of St. Joost School of Art & Design and would you like to contribute with your artwork to opening up conversations about themes such as death, dying, grief and farewell? Soon you may be eligible for an art voucher of €2500 to realise a new project.

Thanks to a donation from Stichting TrosT Drechtsteden, St. Joost is launching an initiative in which art is used to create space for reflection, comfort and dialogue around the end of life. The vouchers are intended to support emerging artists from St. Joost in developing an art project in collaboration with a social organisation in the Breda region.

What does the voucher include?

Selected students or alumni receive:

  • €2500 (excluding VAT) to realise an art project

  • the opportunity to collaborate with a social partner in the Breda region

Material costs can be requested separately and will be assessed per project.

Who can apply?

The vouchers are intended for students and alumni of St. Joost from the following programmes:

  • New Design & Attitudes (NDA)

  • Art & Research

  • Illustration & Animation Strategy (IAS)

  • Photography & Film Design (PFD)

Project requirements

The project must:

  • address themes such as death, dying, loss or grief

  • be developed in collaboration with a social partner

  • take place in the Avans region (with a focus on Breda)

The artwork remains the property of the artist.
After a maximum of 2 years, the work will return to the artist, unless the organisation decides to purchase it.

Do you have a concrete idea?

Do you have a clear idea for an art project related to death, dying, loss or grief and would you like to apply?

Develop your proposal according to the requirements and send your plan to CARADT@avans.nl.

In your proposal, describe:

  • the concept and form of the artwork or project
