Serena is Lab Manager at the Material Incubator within the Biobased Art and Design Research group and the Centre of Expertise Biobased Economy.
Serena studied Biology in Milan, Italy, and has worked in the field of biomedical science in clinical laboratories and in academia.
During her PhD she investigated the molecular pathways triggered by visible light in the context of hair regeneration and skin rejuvenation at Philips Research, NL, and the Centre for Skin Sciences, UK.
As Research Technician at the Biomedical Engineering department of TU/Eindhoven, she supported research projects in the cardiac regeneration field, and was also involved in the coordination of practical courses running in the lab.
In her new role as lab manager, Serena aims to foster a collaborative and efficient laboratory environment, addressing both operational and educational needs.
Research Group: Biobased Art and Design
The research group Biobased Art and Design capitalises on the role of artistic practice in unlocking the unique potentials of living organisms for everyday materials and communicating these to a broader public. In doing so, the group aims to instigate and accelerate our widespread understanding, further development and usage of such materials. The group’s research approach encourages tangible interactions with the living organisms, such as algae, fungi, plants and bacteria, to explore and understand their unique qualities and constraints through diverse technical and creative methods taking artists, designers and scientists as equal and active partners in the material creation.Read more
