About PRELIFE
The origin of life is one of science’s greatest unsolved puzzles. Several theories exist, but there is no consensus. PRELIFE is built on an interdisciplinary approach in which astronomy, biology. chemistry, computer science, earth and planetary sciences, education science, mathematics, and physics work together on the question ‘How and under what conditions did life arise on Earth, and how common are these conditions in the universe?‘ These questions are also alive in society, which is why teachers, schoolchildren and the public will be involved in the search for answers, through educational projects and collaborations with artists and museums.
CARADT’s Role in PRELIFE
We will collaborate with the PRELIFE consortium within a work package titled ‘Bridging the Gap Between the Origin of Life Research and Society’. As part of this collaboration, we will coordinate artist residencies within three of the consortium’s research groups. These residencies aim to inspire artists to create installations based on the scientific discoveries of PRELIFE, which will then be showcased at art festivals, offering audiences a unique view of science through the lens of artistic interpretation.
The work package brings together a network of collaborators who bridge the fields of education, science, and art:
In these partnerships we aim to connect research with societal engagement through critical and imaginative practices, fostering a dialogue between science and society.
The PRELIFE project officially launches on November 10, 2024. We are looking forward to contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge and to broadening public understanding of life’s origins through art and design and congratulate main applicant prof. dr. Inge Loes ten Kate (Utrecht University) and all co-applicants with this magnificent news.
